In the winding of a sheet metal strip or similar into a roll, the strip is subjected to definite varying longitudinal tension during the operation, and the tension is varied with the roll dia. Partic. benefit is obtd. during the initial stages when the tension T1 = T0. alpha, where T0 is an initial nominal tension and alpha is a variable coefft., alpha is initially constant until the roll dia. attains the value D1, then being reduced progressively whereby T = To at a roll dia. of D2. The relationship may be further defined by the expression T= To 1 + alpha(1-D-D1/D2-D1 - beta x D-D3/Dmax-D3 (I), parameters D1, D2 and D3 being adjusted to obtain curves representing optimum winding conditions, and D being the base dia.
|
