The mounting system is to fit components onto a panel, especially control or display panels. The component holder is held at its base on the panel (1) in the absence of a component. The slide (11) is held in place by a deep 'U' shaped spring (25) with the vertical sides turned out at their ends. One end engages with a ratchet (22) on the edge of one half of the slide at its lower end, and the other with a similar ratchet (22a) on the second half but at the opposite end. The rachet consists of a sawtooth strip the teeth allowing the spring to change position in one direction only, the direction of movement being opposite for the upper and lower edges.
