Provided is an apparatus for controlling a fuel injection valve which is capable of suppressing variation in the amount of fuel injected from the fuel injection valve and a method of controlling the same. The method comprises a signal input judgment step (S101) of judging whether or not a pulse signal for operating the fuel injection valve is inputted to a driving unit for driving the fuel injection valve, a pulse width judgment step (S102) of judging, if the pulse signal is inputted, whether or not the pulse width of the pulse signal is greater than a specific value, a fuel pressure judgment step (S103) of judging, if the pulse width is in a specific range, whether or not the fuel pressure of the fuel injection valve is lower than a specific value, and a current waveform change step (S105) of applying a variable current waveform instead of a base current waveform, to change the current waveform to be given to the fuel injection valve, if the fuel pressure of the fuel injection valve is lower than the specific value.
