818,855. Toothed gearing. DETROIT BROACH & MACHINE CO. Aug. 30, 1957 [March 25, 1957], No. 27453/57. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXII] In a rack and pinion drive of the slide 15 of a broaching or like machine the mesh of the teeth of the pinion 17 on a driving-shaft 18 with the teeth of a rack 16 secured to the slide is adjustable to eliminate backlash by means of a rotatable bush 30 which supports the shaft 18 eccentrically in bearings 31, 32. The bush 30 is rotatable in a bore 25 of a supporting frame to which it can be clamped by a ring 50 screwed to the one end of bush 30 by screw 51. The ring 50 engages an edge around one end of the bore 25 whilst a shoulder 300 on the bush engages an edge around the other end. An adjusting-screw 51 engages through a thrust bearing 57 the end of shaft 18 so as to position the pinion 17 axially particularly when herring- bone type of teeth are employed for the rack- and-pinion. |
