The overload coupling has a coupling hub (10) which is located inside a coupling sleeve (1). Radial holes in the hub locate spring loaded plungers which engage axial grooves (2) on the inside of the coupling sleeve (1), thus transmitting torque. When the transmitted torque is excessive, the steel ball between the hub and sleeve is displaced in the direction of rotation. This causes a control sleeve between the hub and outer sleeve to rotate. The coupling plungers are thus retracted and the coupling is disengaged.
