A battery is configured such that one end portion of a first electrode projects further than an end portion of a second electrode and an end portion of a separator in one end surface of an electrode group, the projecting end portion of the first electrode comprises an exposed portion of a first electrode core, the exposed portion of the first electrode core is welded to a connection portion of one surface of a first current collecting plate, and on the other surface of the first current collecting plate, an insulating layer is formed in a region other than the rear surface of the connection portion, whereby the exposed portion of the electrode core which projects from the one end surface of the electrode group can be reliably welded to a desired connection portion of the current collecting plate.
