A method for decoding binary data modulated onto a composite waveform formed from a sinewave carrier including at least one data window in which the composite waveform is either the sinewave carrier or a function other than the sinewave carrier, comprises digitizing the composite waveform to create a plurality of samples at a sampling rate much higher than sinewave carrier frequency; identifying a group of samples that fall within each at least one data window; analyzing the group of samples to determine whether the group of samples describe a function that is the sinewave carrier or a function that is not the sinewave carrier; generating a binary bit of a first value if the group of samples describe a function that is the sinewave carrier; and generating a binary bit of a second value if the group of samples describe a function that is not the sinewave carrier.
