The invention relates to a laser machining center for machining workpieces, comprising a beam guide (6) containing a gas atmosphere, and a test device for testing the gas atmosphere in the beam guide for impurities. The test device uses the photo-acoustic effect. It comprises a measuring chamber and a measuring head (11), wherein the beam guide functions as the measuring chamber. The beam guide, in the function thereof as a measuring chamber, contains the gas atmosphere to be tested and a laser beam modulated with respect to the power thereof. The measuring head or heads are integrated in the beam and are used for detecting the photo-acoustic effect in the measuring chamber and in the beam guide.
