A powder producing apparatus comprising a housing (or chamber) (1), a rod raw material storage unit (3) provided in the housing, a support unit (5) for seizing the rod raw material, inserting it into a below disposed crucible (6) and holding the same while being heated and melted, heating means (7) for melting the rod raw material in the crucible, means (8) for heating the interior of the crucible from thereinside, a rotator (9) for rotating the crucible around the central axis thereof so as to cause the rod raw material having been melted and dropped in the crucible to rise along the wall of the crucible and to scatter in atomized form from a crucible opening by centrifugal force, and a product container (11) for collecting a product resulting from atomized form scattering and cooling in the housing.
