OPTICAL FILM, POLARIZING PLATE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new optical film which contributes to optical compensation of a liquid crystal display apparatus.

SOLUTION: The optical film has a first optical anisotropic layer formed of a composition containing at least one sort of a mesomorphism compound and a second optical anisotropic layer containing at least one sort chosen from a cycloolefin based homopolymer and its copolymer. The optical film is characterized in that the first optical anisotropic layer satisfies a following numerical expression (1). The numerical expression (1) is Re(450)/Re(650)<1.25, wherein Re(λ) denotes an in-plane retardation value (unit:nm) at wavelength λ(nm).
