<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellently operable pointing system without allowing a user to have a spatial restriction. <P>SOLUTION: The user holds a pointing device 1 by hand, which emits a diffusion light beam with high luminance from the center, and shakes the device. The position of the pointing device is recognized by a detecting means with a plurality of light reception sensors for detecting the diffusion light beam arranged therein.
