A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel having a plurality of discharge cells, and a drive circuit for applying a driving voltage to a display electrode of this plasma display panel. One field is composed of a plurality of subfields. Each subfield includes an address period for selecting a discharge cell to be discharged and a sustain period in which a sustain discharge is carried out in the discharge cell to be selected in this address period. The plasma display panel is configured by forming a base film on the dielectric layer covering the display electrodes, and attaching a plurality of crystal particles made of metal oxide to the base film so as to be distributed over an entire surface. The drive circuit is configured so that a voltage having a pulse width of not more than 1 µs is applied to the data electrode in the address period.
