A content identification method and system, together with a content management client and server are disclosed. The content identification method includes the following steps: the identification mode of the contents to be identified is selected; the identification information corresponding to the selected identification mode of the contents to be identified is extracted; the first content identification request including the selected identification mode and identification information is sent, so as to request the content management server to adopt the selected identification mode and identify the attributes of the contents to be identified according to the identification information. Embodiments of the present invention can help to reduce the load of the content identification system and increase the efficiency of content identification.
