An apparatus 3 for an opening/closing member includes a drive unit 4 configured to open and close an opening/closing member, such as a sliding vehicle door, and a control unit 5 attached to the drive unit. The drive unit includes an electric motor 7, a drive casing 6 to which the electric motor is fixed, and a primary gear 12 pivotally supported in the drive casing. The control unit includes a control board casing 16 which is fixed to the drive casing and which receives a control circuit board for controlling the electric motor, a driven gear 17 pivotally supported by the control board casing and engaged with the primary gear, and a rotation sensor. The apparatus further includes guide means 61, 161, for guiding the primary gear from a temporary assembly position in which the primary gear is not engaged with the driven gear, in an assembling direction allowing the primary gear to engage with the driven gear, when the control board casing is attached to the drive casing in a final assembly position. The assembling direction is substantially perpendicular to rotationally axial directions of the primary gear and the driven gear. The guide means is provided at mutually-opposed surfaces of the drive casing and the control board casing. The guide means is preferably in the form of a pin 61 having an enlarged head 611, the pin being guided in a slot 161 of keyhole shape to have an enlarged opening followed by a narrow slot to retain the enlarged head of the pin. |
