PAPERBOARD CARTONS WITH LAMINATED REINFORCING RIBBONS AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME

A method of making reinforced paperboard cartons comprises the steps of advancing a web of paperboard (17) along a path (15) and progressively laminating at least one ribbon (21) of reinforcing material to the advancing web of paperboard (17). The ribbon of reinforcing material (21) has a width less than the width of t he web of paperboard (17) and is applied with adhesive at a selected location (28) across the width of the web. The web (17) and laminat ed ribbon (21) are cut into sheets (39) of a predetermined size and the sheets are die-cut and scored with fold lines to form carton blanks. Carton blanks (51) formed into cartons may consist of multiple reinforcing ribbons (21) and/or multiple layers of reinforcing ribbons (21).
