METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ONBOARD LOCOMOTIVE FUEL USAGE INDICATOR

A method for determining the ideal fuel usage value of a locomotive or othe r off-highway vehicle is disclosed. The time spent in each of a plurality of operating modes is determined and applied to an algorithm for calculating the ideal fu el usage associated with that operating mode. The individual values calculated for ea ch operating mode are summed in accord with the operating modes experienced during a given train run. The sum value represents the ideal fuel usage quantity for the train run.
