PURPOSE:To regenerate a catalyst having the same capacity as the previous one, by washing a catalyst lowered in its activity with an ether compound and/or polyhydric alcoholic ether and an ester compound. CONSTITUTION:When a catalyst for selectively hydrogenating an acetylenic compound in olefin is lowered in its activity, said catalyst is washed by using an ether compound and/or polyhydric alcoholic ester and an ester compound. By this regeneration, a catalyst having capacity almost the same as that of a fresh catalyst is obtained.
