The method involves establishing sets of signals based on respective deformations of points of a fixed member i.e. fixed ring (1), measured by gauges (7), where the points are equally and angularly spaced around the fixed member. Spatial Fourier transformation terms of the deformations are determined for each of the sets of signals. Equations linking harmonic parameters with spatial Fourier transformation terms are resolved to obtain estimation of an operating state e.g. effort torque, by calculating harmonics. An independent claim is also included for an antifriction bearing comprising a fixed member.
