<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for allowing each of a plurality of users to perform member registration while preventing the illegal use of a service even when one peripheral device is shared by a plurality of users. <P>SOLUTION: A server receives device information unique to a peripheral device from a client to which the peripheral device can be connected, and registers it in association with user information unique to the user of the client. In this case, the device information may be manually input by the client in response to the operation of the user, and automatically input from the peripheral device to the client.
