PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive controller for a step-up/down converter capable of saving energy by controlling step-up/down as required and to provide hybrid construction machinery including it.

SOLUTION: This drive controller for the step-up/down converter drives and controls the step-up/down converter connected between a capacitor and a load used for both of power driving and energy regeneration. This drive controller includes a control part for turning off the step-up/down converter if a voltage value of a DC bus (hereinafter referred to as a DC bus voltage value) between the load and the step-up/down converter is within a predetermined range of voltage and driving and controlling the step-up/down converter to bring the DC bus voltage value into the predetermined range of voltage if the DC bus voltage value is out of the predetermined range of voltage.
