摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain good display properties especially on the reflection display part of a translucent half-reflecting liquid crystal display device even if the orientation direction of liquid crystal molecules is approximately in parallel with a substrate, as in IPS mode or FFS mode. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates 1a, 1b, a liquid crystal layer 2 which has the liquid crystal molecules pinched between the substrates and orientated in the parallel direction as each substrate surface, and a reflection layer 3 in which a pattern is formed on one 1a of the substrates, the pattern forming region is made a reflection display part 4, and the non-forming region is made a penetration display part 5. A phase difference layer 7 is arranged between the reflection layers 3 and the liquid crystal layer 2 in the formation region of the reflection layer 3 so as to function as a positive C plate having a relation of nz>nx=ny, where the indexes of refraction in the parallel direction to the substrate surface are nx and ny, and the index of refraction in the optical axis direction orthogonal to the above directions is nz. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
