<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator, which can efficiently release ions without using a blowing fan while reducing the device size by reducing the distance between a positive discharge part and a negative discharge part without a reduction in ion quantity resulting from recombination of generated ions, collision thereof to a partition member dividing both the discharge parts, or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the vicinity of the partition member 4 disposed between a first discharge needle 3a and a second discharge needle 3b for generating positive or negative ions, a first conductive member 9a having the same polarity of ions emitted from the first discharge needle 3a and a second conductive member 9b having the same polarity of ions emitted from the second discharge needle 3b are provided, and the access of the ions generated from the first discharge needle 3a and the second discharge needle 3b to the partition member 4 is suppressed by using the homopolar repelling force between the first conductive member 9a or second conductive member 9b and the generated ions.
