<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problems wherein, with conventional vernier calipers and electronic vernier calipers, an object to be measured is gripped by one hand in most cases, and the vernier calipers is held by the remaining hand to slide a slider for measurement, the action is easy for an expert but is difficult for a beginner and an orthopedically-handicapped person, and also measurement operation becomes difficult depending on the environment for operation, such as in the underwater and at construction sites, and the precision of the vernier calipers may become poor because of shock due to falling. Ž<P>SOLUTION: On the back of a main scale and that of a slider in the vernier calipers and electronic vernier calipers, a finger-grip or a finger passing part is provided. A finger gripped or passed by gripping or passing the finger to the finger-grip or the finger passing part is stretched to facilitate the sliding of the slider and to reduce cases of careless falling when fingers have been passed, thus reducing a decrease in the precision of the vernier calipers.
