PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic opening and closing device for a door capable of opening and closing the door automatically and smoothly with a comparatively simple structure by preventing the occurrence of malfunction caused by a wire provided between a spring unit and an engaging body in this type of device. SOLUTION: In the automatic opening and closing device for the door, the engaging body 13 is provided at a tip of the wire 12 to be pulled by the biasing force stored in the spring unit 11, is usually hooked on a locking member 15 while the engaging body 13 is pulled out of the spring unit 11, and is made to leave the locking member in emergency to move the door 4 in the direction for opening or closing it by the engaging body to be pulled. A guide member 14 to be horizontally extended is arranged between the spring unit 11 and the locking member 15, the engaging body 13 is attached to move along the guide member, and a braking part 30 capable of changing friction force between the guide member and the engaging body is provided in the engaging body.
