PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for encoding an image, and a method and an apparatus for decoding an image are provided to encode an image based on a dynamically determined data processing unit. CONSTITUTION: Encoded data are received. Information required for decoding is parsed from the received data(1910). Encoding mode of a group showing encoding mode is read from the parsed data(1920). Data of the group corresponding to the read encoding mode are decoded(1930).
