PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tilt detecting device capable of accurately detecting the tilt of an attached member. SOLUTION: By fully depressing a release button, imaging is performed by an image sensor 39a. At this point, an image capturing device is set in a correction mode, so that a movable part 30a is driven in accordance with acceleration generated by camera shake, and the image sensor 39a obtains a photographic image which is not affected by the camera shake. The photographic image is transmitted to a CPU 21. A first tilt detection part 33a detects the tilt of the image capturing device when imaging, and transmits the tilt as voltage to the CPU 21. The first tilt detection part 33a is attached to the movable part 30a, so that it detects the tilt of the image capturing device while eliminating the effect of the acceleration generated by the camera shake to the utmost. The CPU 21 determines from the received voltage value whether the image capturing device is held at a vertical position or a horizontal position when imaging, and writes information that imaging is performed at the vertical or horizontal position in a header area of the photographic image and stores it in a recording medium.
