摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure of which mechanical strength is easily secured and which is easily controlled when a rolling bearing is mounted to a pinion shaft in a rack and pinion device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The pinion shaft 4 includes a part 4b to be supported continuously provided on an axial steering wheel side from a base side terminal end of a pinion tooth part 4a, and the part 4b to be supported is formed in a taper shape such that its outer diameter is gradually reduced toward the axial steering wheel side. Further, an inner peripheral surface of an inner ring 2a of the rolling bearing 2 is formed in a taper shape such that its inner diameter is gradually increased toward an axial rack side, and includes a shape suitable for an outer peripheral surface of the part 4b to be supported.
