PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel oil composition used for a fuel high pressure injection type diesel engine. SOLUTION: The fuel oil composition for the diesel engine contains 5-70 vol.% of a fuel oil base material having a content of naphthenes of 20-80 vol.%, a content of an aromatic hydrocarbon of≤40 vol.%, a 90 vol.% distillation temperature of 315-360°C, and a kauri-butanol value is≥13, and has a distillation property that a 10 vol.% distillation temperature is 180-225°C and a 90 vol.% distillation temperature is 315-350°C. In the composition, a sulfur content is≤10 mass ppm, a saturated hydrocarbon is 45-97 vol.%, an aromatic hydrocarbon is 3-30 vol.%, a content of a bicyclic aromatic group is≤1.5 vol.%, and a content of a polycyclic group having three or more rings is≤0.5 vol.%, a content of naphthenes is≤50 vol.%, a content of polycyclic naphthenes is≤25 vol.%, and a content of isoparaffin is 7-90 vol.%, a cloud point is≤4°C, and a content of a saturated aliphatic acid alkyl ester in which the carbon number of an aliphatic acid portion is≥16 is 0.5-18 mass%.
