When no close failure (i.e., the EGR valve cannot be completely closed) is detected (flag Fa is 0), an engine is controlled by using a target fuel injection amount Qf* obtained by correcting a basic fuel injection amount Qftmp in the increase direction upon operation of the engine accompanied by recirculation of an exhaust gas in a predetermined high-load operation region (flag Fi is 1) (S220, S230, S250, S260).
