METHOD FOR ACCESSING A STORAGE SYSTEM WITH NUMEROUS FILE SYSTEMS

In order to avoid data collisions and conflicts when accessing a storage system with incorporated file and application server systems, the file access commands may be received from the application server and from the incorporated file systems and may be translated into memory access commands. The memory access commands may write data to and read data from a memory in the storage system. Centrally translating and executing the memory access commands on the storage system preserves the integrity of the data in the memory. The incorporated file system may receive the file access commands using the universal serial bus mass storage class interface coming from the application server. Alternatively, a storage system index in the storage system includes a blocking indicator which indicates that parts of the memory are being accessed by the application server and the incorporated file systems. The storage system index and the copies of the storage system index may include modification indicators for indicating whether the copies have been modified in the application server and in the storage system and whether they need to be synchronized.
