<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a misfire detecting device for a multicylinder internal combustion device capable of accurately detecting misfire even if there is mechanical dispersion of a crank angle sensor or a swing back of rotational speed following misfire. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A first fluctuation amount Δω1<SB>n</SB>being a fluctuation value of a difference of rotational speeds per cylinder between cylinders wherein cycles are shifted for just an integral multiple of one rotation of an output shaft of the internal combustion engine, is calculated as Δω1<SB>n</SB>=(ω<SB>n</SB>-ω<SB>n-2</SB>)-(ω<SB>n-1</SB>-ω<SB>n-3</SB>) in for example, a four cylinder internal combustion engine, and a second fluctuation amount Δω2<SB>n</SB>being a fluctuation amount of the first fluctuation amount Δω1<SB>n</SB>is calculated as Δω2<SB>n</SB>=Δω1<SB>n</SB>-Δω1<SB>n-1</SB>. If the second fluctuation amount Δω2<SB>n</SB>is smaller than a determination value -A, and a second fluctuation amount Δω2<SB>n-2</SB>being a value prior to the last value is larger than the determination value A, misfire occurrence is determined.
