<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica gel for a practicable column packing material for liquid chromatography having excellent separation performance by using a gel particle having an average particle diameter of several microns or below. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The silica gel for column packing material for liquid chromatography is provided with silica gel particles obtained by hydrolyzing an alkoxysilane compound or its derivative in a mixed solvent comprising water and an organic solvent having a polarity lower than that of water in the presence of a catalyst and applying microwave to the obtained reaction mixture.
