<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid exciting synchronous machine which can perform magnetization/demagnetization while minimizing exciting power loss. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Magnetic flux of the permanent magnet 9 in an even-numbered rotor magnetic pole 6B in the rotor core 2 having the permanent magnet 9 is guided in the axial direction by an axial magnetic path member 53. Magnetic flux of the permanent magnet 9 in an odd-numbered rotor magnetic pole 6A is sent to a soft magnetic inner tubular portion 51. The axial end faces of the inner tubular portion 51 and the axial magnetic path member 53 are projecting farther than a rotor core 5 in the axial direction, and facing a stationary magnetic path member (not shown) through a minute gap. The amount of magnet flux (field flux) being applied to the stator core from the permanent magnet 9 can be adjusted by an excitation current being fed to an exciting coil (not shown) which is wound around the stationary magnetic path member. Since the exciting coil and the permanent magnet 9 are arranged in series in a field flux magnetic circuit, power loss of the exciting coil can be reduced. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
