PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die coating method for applying a coating liquid on a carrier supported by the tension supporting system using a slot die, which changes the coating width easily and conveniently, and further which stably obtains the coating film with a uniform coating thickness. SOLUTION: The coating liquid 2 is applied on the carrier 1 running continuously, which is supported within a pair of support rolls 41, 42 by the tension supporting system. A pair of shim plates 20a, 20b are inserted on both ends of the width direction of a slot 13 from which the coating liquid of the slot die is discharged and further a pair of lap sheets 21a, 21b are brought into close contact with the face opposite to the carrier of the slot die so that they may cover at least a part of a pair of the shim plates. The thickness T of the lap sheet satisfies the range: (0.8×H3/VR)≤T<(2.1×H3/VR) äwherein H3 denotes the thickness after drying the coating liquid applied on the carrier; and VR is the volume concentration [vol.%]/100 of the coating liquid}.
