PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage system, which prevents a free cache memory from being reduced by data which remains in the cache memory of a storage subsystem, without being transmitted to a storage area in an external storage, and is accumulated therein, and which is able to properly maintain the I/O processing performance of the storage subsystem. SOLUTION: The storage system, in which the external storage is connected to the storage subsystem, and the storage subsystem providing a storage area of the external storage as own storage area has a volume for saving dirty data which is not transmitted to the external volume and remains in the cache memory of the storage subsystem, and solves the overload of the cache memory, by determining a state in which the free cache memory is reduced and saving the dirty data in a save volume.
