The holder (11) has a frame (13) divided into two frame parts (15, 16), where a U-shaped holding region (41) of the frame engages around an edge of a license plate. The frame parts are detachable from each other for insertion or removing of the license plate. The frame is detachably fastened at a vehicle by a fastening element (17) that is made of two attachment bars. A profile (21) has a flange (51) connecting at the U-shaped holding region in a cross section. The flange runs on the backside of the holder perpendicular to the level of the frame.
