<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knitting machine which can quickly and economically produce also a complicated Jacquard knit pattern. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In order to produce a knitted fabric product on at least one needle bed 52, at least one first yarn guide bar 2 of Jacquard knit type is shifted, while accompanied by a swing operation orthogonal to a shog operation. A shift controlled with the first linear motor is automatically changed with a control means 60 to change the width of the shog operation during the production of the knitted fabric product, and at least one yarn guide bar 2 is shifted, while accompanied by a shog operation having the second prescribed width different from the first prescribed width. At least one shift in the needle space of at least one first yarn guide 3 of the first bar 2 is automatically controlled with the control means 60 connected to the first yarn guide bar 2 during at least one shog operation, while adding to the shog operation or subtracting from the shog operation.
