<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing utensil which enables light click feel and which makes it hard to cause damage or deformation to the driving cam or the cam follower. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The writing utensil selectively exposes and sinks a plurality of writing refills 3 from and into the leading end of the shaft sleeve 2 by cooperation of the driving cam 11 and the cam follower 12 having a driven surface 12a biased against the cam surface 16 of the driving cam 11, the cam surface 16 in an angle shape consisting of a pair of slanted cam surfaces 16b and an engaging part 16a in a flat shape provided between the slanted cam surfaces 16b, the driven surface 12a of the cam follower 12 making an approximate V shape. The engaging part 16a being in a flat shape like this, a difference in force can be decreased by as much as possible between the time when the apex 12d of the cam follower 12 plunges into the engaging part 16a of the driving cam 11 and the time when the apex 12d of the cam follower 12 gets out of the engaging part 16a of the driving cam 11, thereby enabling light click feel.
