<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manual transmission 10 in which a select control lever 22, with it fixed in a connection position, for operating a transmission mechanism is connected with a shift lever 50, and the lever 22 can be unfixed without directly operating fixtures for the fixation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The manual transmission includes an engagement arm 32 that is provided on a select control lever 22, a retention member 86 that retains the engagement arm 32 to fix the lever 22 at a first select turning position, and a retention release device 88 by which the retention member 86 is disengaged when the lever 22 is turned to a fourth select turning position. Thereby, the lever 22 can be unfixed without directly operating the engagement arm 32 and the retention member 86, because the retention member 86 that fixes the lever 22 can be disengaged by operating a shift lever 50.
