<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paper feeding device for eliminating misdetection of a sheet size during a stand-by time or a printing action, and not deteriorating operability when the sheet is exchanged or filled. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This paper feeding device feeds a plurality of loaded and stored sheets one by one for forming an image. When an empty detection sensor SE1 is turned on and detects existence of the sheet (in step S1, YES), a sheet size is detected (step S2). Until a printing request commanding a start of the image formation is issued (in step S4, NO), detection of the sheet size is continued.
