<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original document reading apparatus having a structure which can clean a reflector of irradiation light from the original document existence detection sensor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An original document reading apparatus has an automatic original document conveying apparatus, an original document existence detection sensor, and a scanner. The original document reading apparatus has a reflector. When an original document is conveyed, a relation between an original document conveyance path and the original document existence detection sensor is set so that the original document reflects irradiation light from the original document existence detection sensor to a light reception part. Meanwhile, when the original document is not conveyed, the reflector reflects the irradiation light from the original document existence detection sensor to a direction different from the light reception part.
