PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer material having a clear multicolor recorded image, by providing a first thermally transferable ink layer comprising a color forming compound dispersed in a heat-fusible binder and a second thermally transferable ink layer comprising a coloring agent dispersed in a heat- fusible binder having a melting point lower than that in the first ink layer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer layer 3 comprises a first thermally transferable ink layer 3a comprising a color forming compound 5 dispersed in a heat- fusible binder 4a and a second thermally transferable ink layer 3b comprising a coloring agent 6 dispersed in a heat-fusible binder 4b having a melting point lower than that in the first ink layer 3a. When relatively low energy is applied, a second thermally transferable ink can be transferred onto a recording material while restraining development of the color of a first thermally transferable ink through utilizing the characteristics of the color forming compound, so that clear images can be formed. When relatively high energy is applied, the color tone of the first ink can be controlled by varying the quantity of the energy, so that the color tone of a transfer-recorded image can be varied in multiple stages. |
