Provided are a device and method which permit the same subjects to be handled as indicated character patterns even when there are multiple images of states in which the position and size of character patterns which indicate the same subjects differ. An image input component (101) inputs, together with the image, supplementary information such as the location where this image was taken and at what time, and stores said information in an image data storage component (102). Furthermore, a character recognition component (103) carries out character recognition on the characters in the images and stores the recognition results in a character recognition result storage component (104). On the basis of this image information and supplementary information and these character recognition results, the subjects are analysed in accordance with analysis conditions which have been input by an indicator component (105), by extracting sampling subject character information which is associated with the subjects in the analysis component (106), and the analysis results are output at the result output component (107). This makes it possible to analyse changes in the subjects by analysing changes in the character patterns which indicate the same subjects.
