The socket (2) has a tube (21) for connecting a polymer optical fiber (20) that transmits digital optical signals. An optoelectric converter converts the optical signals into electrical signals. An optical splitter (24) is arranged in an optical signal path between an optical input and the converter. The optical splitter allows branching of the polymer optical fiber into two polymer optical fiber sections (26, 27) that are respectively assigned to receiving direction and transmitting direction. The converter is formed with a receiving diode (28) and a transmitting diode (41).
