Ž<P>SOLUTION: In carrying out pre-injection for premixing and pre-injection for preheating prior to main injection in a common rail type diesel engine, the delay limit of injection end timing of main injection is set to allow almost the whole quantity of injected fuel to flow into a recessed part of a piston top face. The delay limit of pre-injection for premixing is set to timing not to cause reverse torque. The advance limit of pre-injection for preheating is set to timing to degrade a heat generation rate in a cylinder when the injection start timing of pre-injection for preheating is advanced.
