<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of the whole body of a system by removing a dust component and a tar component by using an inexpensive device simple in structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The power generating system is provided with a gas generating device 1 storing wood chips M and generating gas by operation by the combustion or dry distillation of the wood chips M, an engine 20 driven by using the generated gas as fuel, and a generator 30 generating power by an output of the engine 20. The plurality of gas generating devices 1 are provided, and a gas introduction port 3 and a gas discharge port 4 are formed at each gas generating device 1, and the introduction port 3 and the discharge port 4 of each of the gas generating devices 1 are connected by a connecting pipe 8 having an opening and closing valve 7 so that at least one of the gas generating devices 1 is operated and other gas generating devices 1 make gas pass and a purifying function for purifying the gas is exerted, and a gas takeout pipe 9 having the opening and closing valve 7 for taking out the gas discharged from the gas generating device 1 is provided.
