<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a running vehicle and a running vehicle system for easing requirements for mark installation, and facilitating installation of marks. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Marks arranged at intervals along a travel route are detected by at least one pair of sensors that differ in position along the longitudinal direction of a running vehicle, and the positions of the marks along the horizontal direction of the running vehicle are determined to determine the direction of the vehicle with respect to the travel route. The horizontal position of each mark detected by one of the pair of sensors first detecting the mark is stored, and the marks detected by the pair of sensors are identified. Positional information of each mark detected by the pair of sensors is read. Based on this position information and the horizontal position of each mark detected by the pair of sensors, the direction of the running vehicle relative to the travel route is calculated. As a result, the interval between the marks does not have to coincide with the interval between the pair of sensors, so that installation of the marks is facilitated.
