<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remotely or locally controllable medical device system that can inform care providers of a patient's status by notifying of alarm conditions and sending status reports to a remote fax or computer of the care provider or other health personnel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The remotely programmable and accessible medical device system (10) including an interface unit (14) and a medical device (12) connected to a patient (18) is disclosed. Through a transceiver, such as a telephone (48) or computer (50), a person may obtain status reports from a remotely located medical device in audible, electronic or paper form.
