The cooling member (50) cools a power element (56) provided in an inverter (55) with a refrigerant. A compressor controller (61) and an expansion valve controller (62) are provided in a controller (60) of the air conditioner (10). When the heating operation starts, the compressor controller (61) gradually raises in steps the rotational speed of the compressor (30). The expansion valve controller (62) increases the degree of opening of the expansion valve (43) each time the rotational speed of the compressor (30) is raised until the degree of opening corresponds to the rotational speed of the compressor (30), and prevents the temperature of the refrigerant flowing from the expansion valve (43) to the cooling member (50) from becoming too low.
