A first embodiment of the invention relates to a filter for working fluid of an internal combustion engine, e.g. oil or fuel. Said filter comprises a housing and a functional element such as a filter insert that can be inserted into the housing. The functional element has a supply pipe or discharge pipe for a fluid. A closing element is provided on the functional element. Said closing element closes the supply pipe or discharge pipe in the dismounted state of the functional element and is designed to be movable relative to the remainder of the functional element in such a way as to be automatically moved into an open position when the functional element is mounted, the closing element unblocking the supply pipe or discharge pipe in said open position when the functional element is in the mounted state.
